Who We Are

Emerald City Editing is proud to be a

Seattle-based, woman-owned small business.

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Sam and I’m the owner of Emerald City Editing. I’m a proofreader, editor, writer, and educator. I’m also a yoga teacher, (previous) school counselor, new mom, collector of cookbooks, average player of trivia & drinking games, and enthusiastic book club member. Originally from the Philadelphia suburbs of New Jersey, I have lived in the beautiful emerald city of Seattle since 2014. I started ECE when being a public educator started to take its toll on me. I decided to turn my break from education into a chance to try my hand at another passion: sharing my proofreading and editing skills with my community.

I have been working off and on in proofreading since I was an undergrad at Rowan University in the aughts, mainly proofreading court transcripts. I continued on to graduate school and received my Master’s in Education, and subsequently started my career as a middle school counselor. I kept taking editing projects on the side, and had the opportunity to edit my first novel in 2021. I have since had the pleasure to edit more novels, both fiction and nonfiction. I have also edited newsletters, websites, and social media accounts for small businesses and non-profit organizations. Doing this type of work for so many years has taught me that I find joy in helping make others’ projects their best possible versions.

Frank Clark is ECE’s tech supervisor. A professional and experienced computer programmer, he lends his technical talents to style services, resulting in smooth looking and running website content.

And finally, to the unofficial ECE member, my son Colin, because I love him so much and he provides support just by being around. I want him to grow up with the example that it’s okay to take risks to follow your passion and live your life the way that you want to be living it.
